It beggars belief but The BLOG is about to open if we get around to writing for it!

Es increíble pero El BLOG pronto sea abierto si no estaremos demasiados vagos (ó pobre, claro) para usar!

The Lazy Beggars

The Laptop Quest

The Lazy Beggars - Working hard in a nice office ;-)

OK, as anyone who has seen this site develop over time will know, we have been after a laptop for a long time as we have done all the development in internet cafes and the like which has, in total, cost more than a few new laptops would have done! (to date the website has cost us much, much more than we've gained on PayPal, This is how we live. Some people believe that honesty and raising a smile is worth a drop. Good day but - hey - we've also bought beer! :-)

To this end we basically stopped developing the site (only using cybercafes for important e-mail and maintenance) and saved a little of our lazily-earned money each day until we finally bought a second-hand Dell Latitude D600 in El Rastro, the flea-market in Madrid which is bigger than the town I grew up in.

The Latitude series have a common fault where a badly-connected DC power jack socket causes arcing and burns out the connection on the motherboard, meaning you can no longer charge the battery. On the one we bought the surrounding circuitry was also burnt out so, after time appealing up here for someone to give us an old motherboard (or a new laptop!) we finally bought a motherboard on ebay (which had a different indigenous problem with memory), a soldering iron and a day in a hostal (it was raining in Madrid at the time) for Lyndon to spend cannibalising the two until we had one that worked.

This left us with a laptop that worked (when connected to AC) but in need of a new battery, as otherwise we wouldn't be able to watch The Simpsons while "working" ;-)

(see photo below of the dogs working hard in a WiFi zone in Fuencarral in Madrid while plugged into the wall in the friendly beer shop)

The Lazy Beggars - Laptop with WiFi, no battery but a friendly beershop

We were lucky in that a couple of days before we left Madrid to come down to Los Caños for the summer a very friendly guy from part of Microsoft (contrary to popular opinion they do exist! ;-) came by and, aside from giving us some money and taking some good photos, took the laptop details and promised to see if he could find an old battery in the office to send us which indeed he did!

So now we've got a laptop with WiFi and, consequently, are spending no money in internet cafes and more money on important, soulful and interesting things (such as beer! ;-).
It also means we're spending time updating the site and are earnestly trying to re-open the blog and update the galleries in-between episodes of The Simpsons and Heroes :-)

We're honest...we (hopefully) made you think and smile...
...we've even got a bloody website.
What more do you want before you give money to a beggar?! :-)
